Reading, Writing & Math
SWS follows the DC Common Core Standards and strives to continually develop the literacy curriculum so that students have frequent opportunities to use language in our balanced literacy plan. Preschool Students use Everyday Math, while Kindergarten and above use inquiry-based, also tied to the Common Core.
The families of SWS are offered an extended day program Monday through Friday during the school year, as well as half and full day Mini Camps on non-legal days off of school for students. The Bridge provides an environment that is nurturing, playful, social, creative, and enriching, and connected to the SWS school day.More about Bridge offerings
At SWS parent and teacher leadership are highly important to our school’s success. An Advisory and Support Team comprised of parents and teachers advise the principal and provide input on important topics; parent committees increase parent participation; and Friends of SWS raises funds and provides significant financial support for our school.
