SWS Honored with “Whole Child” Award

At this year’s DCPS Standing Ovation Awards, School-Within-School @ Goding was awarded the “Whole Child Award”! SWS was nominated along with Ron Brown Academy and Maury Elementary. Each year the DC Public Education Fund hosts Standing Ovations and honors DCPS’s outstanding schools and individual employees with recognition and cash awards.

  • The Whole Child Award recognizes and applauds a DCPS school that provides rigorous, joyful, and inclusive academic and social emotional learning experiences to ensure all students are college and career ready. Successful candidates demonstrate the following:
  • Social emotional learning practices are reflected not in isolation but embedded within the school’s identity and culture
  • Social emotional competencies and expectations are visible between adults and students, students to students, and adults to adults
  • Build a constant culture of adult learning around SEL knowledge and capacity

This recognition of SWS as a school that teaches to the complete child is the result of our long history: 24 years of students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators committed to support and develop the child’s potential through a collaborative teaching and learning environment inspired by the philosophy and practice of the Reggio Schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Though we try and live this mission every day, it is one we are committed to researching and improving in to ensure that every child entering our doors is able to learn and grow to their fullest potential. We are so fortunate to be part of this creative, caring, and kind school community.
