Tina DeAnna, Instructional Coach

tina-deanna“The thing I love most about teaching/working at SWS is… EVERYTHING, but especially that we go outside when it’s cold, wet and snowy!

The thing I am most proud of is…. The adults my three children have grown to be.

In my free time I enjoy… Dogs, cats, yarn, books, friends, music, walks.

I love being a mathematics teacher. I believe in constructivist learning and teaching. Constructivism is a learning strategy that draws on students’ existing knowledge, beliefs and skills. The constructivist teacher sets up problems and monitors student exploration, guides student inquiry, and promotes new patterns of thought. I try to do this every day.

I hope that a visitor to my class would see children who are working together to solve problems. They would see that math is fun, and that mathematics is so much more than arithmetic. They would hear children discussing their ideas and using mathematical language. They would see students working with many different types of materials.”
